The Program ~

Miss Dena and a group of moms are excited to present a new team building program that will hopefully help each company member to become the best dancer they are capable of becoming. The program is based on Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success. Coach Wooden is a legendary basketball coach who reached an unprecedented success as a coach and as a teacher. Under his confident guidance, the Bruins won 81% of their games and set all-time records with four perfect 30-0 seasons, 88 consecutive victories, 38 straight NCAA tournament victories, 20 PAC-10 championships, and 10 national championships - seven of them consecutive. As a high school English teacher John Wooden grew frustrated with the grading system he was required to use and felt compelled to help his students better understand success as a result of effort. He thought of his father’s advice, that he should, never try to be better than anyone else, but never stop trying to be the best you can be. So he spent the next 14 years identifying 25 behaviors he believed were necessary to achieve his idea of success. This search culminated in a simple but profound diagram Wooden called "The Pyramid of Success", which he completed in 1948. Nearly six decades later these foundational behaviors have weathered the test of time - unchanged, full of wisdom, as rock-solid as the first day Coach established the cornerstones of Industriousness and Enthusiasm. More information on the pyramid of success can be found at www.coachwooden.com

Based on Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success we have created Miss Dena’s Program of Success. Each week the company dancers will learn about one of Coach Wooden’s building blocks. The dancers will then be asked to demonstrate at home and in the classroom that they exhibited the principle taught. The dancer will then be asked to obtain their parent or guardian’s signature as verification and in return they will receive a letter bead for a bracelet that they will be building. While the concept may be young for our senior dancers it is our hope that the seniors will be leaders and help the juniors and mini’s understand the importance of these building blocks to success. Upon completion of all the blocks-dancers will receive a t-shirt indicating that have reached competitive greatness.

Introduction ~

  • Once a week, you will learn about one of the blocks.
  • You will also learn about a pledge or a promise related to that block.
  • The following week if you honor your pledge, you sign your initials on your sheet.
  • Then, you receive a bead to place on your bracelet/necklace.
  • Upon pledging and committing to all the blocks you’ll receive a very special “Competitive Greatness Trainer” t-shirt.

We are currently in WEEK 4
BLOCK 4 of 15.....COOPERATION!

Definition of cooperation; working with others for the benefit of all.

  • Working with others makes us much more then we could ever become alone.
  • Gentleness is a better method of getting cooperation than harshness is.
  • A team can accomplish much more when it works together than individuals can when they work alone.
  • Does trying to be the star help the team?
  • The abilities of the dancers serve the team, as opposed to the dance being used to serve an individual.

The Pledge...

to show cooperation by being interested in finding the best way, not in having my own way.
